In 1970 a massive cyclone struck East Pakistan (now Banglasdesh) and a disaster came down in Bangladesh. Many people were living without food and dying of diseases. Two persons, Dr Sultana Sarwat Ara Zaman and Begum Sufia Kamal started helping those people. Their friends Firoza Begum, Alia Amin and many others also joined hands. This was the beginning of Samaj Unnayan Sangstha.
