Work For: - Catholic Relief Services (CRS) began working in Bangladesh during the Liberation War with relief programs in refugee camps. After independence, CRS Bangladesh has been implementing various projects aimed at the development of the backward, poor, and disaster-affected communities through local and national implementing agencies. CRS has been implementing activities in neglected, backward and backward districts of North, East, West, and South Bengal namely Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Khulna, Satkhira, Barisal, Bhola, Mymensingh, Netrakona, Munshiganj, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Bandarban, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar. Currently, the organization provides emergency relief assistance and disaster risk reduction activities in Bandarban, Bhola, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Cox's Bazar districts, construction and repair of houses for victims of various disasters, financial assistance in exchange for work for unemployed people, community capacity building for disaster prevention, income-generating work for poor families, employment creation, agriculture and livelihood, etc. have been working to improve the quality of life and skills of specific beneficiaries by implementing programs. CRS implements projects following community-based implementation strategy through its local partners. During the financial year 2020-2021, 148,830 poor and disaster-affected beneficiaries have directly received assistance through various programs implemented by CRS through its local partners., including housing assistance, income-generating work, disaster resilience capacity building, disaster resilient agriculture, covid-19 relief assistance, hygiene kit assistance. Besides, 297,330 poor people have been indirectly benefited through these programs. Projects are implemented by ensuring community participation at various levels of project implementation. As part of this process, sites and beneficiaries are selected through initial assessment and discussions with the community and local government and local administration. Participation and feedback of beneficiaries is ensured by following community-based approach at every level of project implementation and evaluation process.
